July 25 2009 Anjali Dance Company was invited to perform in the Special Olympics Great Britain Opening Ceremony on Saturday 25th July 2009, to an enthusiastic 23,000 crowd in Leicester’s Walker Stadium, which included the Prime Minister and his wife. The Special Olympics Opening Ceremony was a spectacular launch to the games week where 2,700 learning disabled athletes competed in a range of Olympic style sports competitions. Anjali’s specifically commissioned piece was inspired by the Olympic sport of synchronised swimming and featured silver medalist special Olympic athlete Hannah Dempsey. Anjali Dance Company combined their Youth Company and Main Company to produce a dance extravaganza as part of the magical Opening Ceremony.
